‘Eastern tradition meets modern pop art’ seems to be the main theme of the recent fashion shows of Alleira, the Indonesian label famed for its contemporary handmade batik.
The shows, held at Alexa Mall and Universität der Künste in Berlin, Germany on October 19 and 20, featured the label’s signature ombre colours paired with batik motifs that the Western audience are accustomed to, such as clover designs and simple geometric shapes.
These intricate fabric designs made their transformations into chic knee-length dresses, sumptuous silk scarves and beautiful blouses in Alleira’s interpretation of today’s wearable batik clothings. The vibrant and summery colours of this casual chic collection seemed to appeal to the German audience.
The fashion shows were part of a week-long cultural program organised by the Tourism Department of the City of Jakarta.
